This course examines the life of the Buddha through the lens of Pure Land Buddhism tradition. Each school interprets this story a bit differently. In the 6th Century BCE, Prince Siddhartha Gotama is born into the warrior caste. In his twenties he leaves home to begin the journey of a seeker. At 35 he achieves enlightenment and becomes Shakyamuni Buddha. In his newly awakened state, he begins to teach to a small group of followers. His teachings begin with the Four Noble Truths and the Eighthfold Noble Path. The course introduces the foundational Three Treasures, recognized by all Buddhist schools.
