A Partnership for Self-Care
Wikipedia defines a physician as "a health professional who practices medicine, which is concerned with promoting, maintaining or restoring health through the study, diagnosis, prognosis and treatment of disease, injury, and other physical and mental impairments."
Early on in my career, I felt like a superhero. Full of knowledge and ready to help all of the patients that would come by. As I matured, I began to have a different perspective. I have learned that often, I gain as much from my patients as I am able to help them. Through my patients, I am often reminded of the teachings of Buddhism.

I didn’t grow up at a Buddhist temple. In fact, during my time in high school and part of college, I attended a Christian church. It was during this time that I found that Christianity didn’t really resonate with me. I stopped going to church until I got married. My two kids grew up at OCBC and that is how my journey with Buddhism began. I found an embracing community that is accepting of all. I finally felt at home.
But as a young child, I always knew that I wanted to be a doctor, in part because of the compassionate care I received from my pediatrician. I knew that I wanted to be able to make a real difference in people's lives, and practicing medicine gives me that opportunity. I feel that healthy living and preventive care are the best ways to stay healthy. I want to be your partner in health.
